Saturday, July 20, 2002 community I met a lot of cool people at this thing I went to in Seattle, but I felt I clicked as a friend with one particular girl - I'll call her 'Ang' (since I asked if I could call her that when I got to know her better.. it just seemed easier and 'normal' for me to say at the time). It was a little spooky - when I talked to Ang, I felt like I was talking to myself. Haha.. not in the sense that she wasn't listening, but the fact that anything I discovered about her was exactly me. We both chewed the same type of gum (Winterfresh), both were in love with the same band (Dashboard Confessional - she already went to their concert recently.. whereas I was talking about how I'll possibly be going soon..), both wore the same type of clothing (AE - in fact, she works there)... and many other little things I discovered. It wasn't like we went down a list of things either - we simply started to hang out around each other and would discover these random things (oh.. she has the exact same type/brand of a certain travel bag I use.. haha.. craziness..).. we both keep online journals.. etc.. .. I swear I'm getting to the point of community service here.. Alex, always-observant-Alex :P, told me that he thought Ang and I would get along.. and that we were similar.. the "always-nice-type" (?)... Alex had previously met Ang at a similar conference to the one in Seattle at California (was that not a completely confusing sentence..?) .. anyway.. I've decided Alex has great choice in the friends he made in California because I completely got along the-most with those same people in Seattle. :) Heehee.. getting back to the point now.. Ang and I were grouped together at the 'community service' event we had to go to while in Seattle. This community service involved dumping plants.. pushing wheelbarrows.. dumping wheelbarrows... actually.. that was the task that Ang and I got - probably one of the toughest (at least that's what the community service leader-lady was telling us.. .. as we nearly ran each other over with the wheelbarrows..) Ang and I... we're kind of tiny people (Ang more-so).. or at least.. she's the tiny one and I'm just a weakling? lol.. I was actually having a lot of fun though, at this community service thing.. just because I was with her and we were a duo/weakling-team with the wheelbarrow stuff. Heh.. we had run-away wheelbarrows... too-heavy-tipping/dumping-over wheelbarrows (dumping when they weren't supposed to be, mind you).... it was actually kind of funny.. a little frustrating when one dumped completely over.... I thought the funniest part of it all was that there were individuals handling a single wheelbarrow with no problems at all.. whereas her and I were working together but were still having many "issues" with the wheelbarrows... haha.. not to mention the plants stunk pretty bad.. and the whole dumping-plants was a dirty mess.. and then dumping the wheelbarrows - that was the best part... Ang and I have decided that if we ever go into the business of dumping wheelbarrows.. we have an official slogan... "we dump with style" (lol.. does that not sound there's a story behind that.. we decided to load the plants onto the wheelbarrow-thing.. and then we would run down this hill with the wheelbarrow and tip the entire wheelbarrow over making perfectly-lined-up-dirt-castle-figures in the dumping area. ... haha.. it was truly a great method of dumping.. whereas everyone else was boring about it and simply wheeled their barrow to the dumping area, and then would one-by-one take their plants out of the pots and dump them randomly into the dump next to our perfectly-lined-up-dirt-castles. good times. . . . babbled Lin |
