Monday, June 17, 2002 this could get interesting.. or completely dull (this blog, that is - worse than it already is). Because.. I started this job today.. I am the "greeter" at a large county building. Today I am filling in for someone on vacation for about an hour - next week is when I officially begin... 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. What does this job consist of, you ask? Basically.. I "sit at a desk and make sure no drunks come in" (almost a direct quotation from the lady who hired me). I'm not sure what to think of this job. I have my own little downstairs office, included is a computer (however this computer is probably one of the slowest ever.. and I've had my share of experience with sloooow computers).. I can't seem to get aim express to work, heh, if that doesn't workout then I will be thoroughly disappointed and this job will go downhill from there. I've been thinking about what I can do at this job... I have.. my gosh! (just counted).. 9 hours every day of nothing to do as far as the "job" goes.. but I'm getting paid for it. Plans/Options: - read, read, and read (pleeeease recommend books if you read this!.. I enjoy interesting autobiographies.. such as .. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers.. the Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath... but any other fictional books which are believable(realistic)/interesting I wouldn't mind looking into..) - Web design.. for that other job in-which I get paid great money. - Write in my blog every half an hr.... ahha.. being the greeter could be interesting in these ways: * I overhear every conversation people are having when they walk in... crazy stuff * I observe crazy/interesting/seemingly-low-income people all-day * I observe cute guys coming up/down the stairs about every 20-30 min... maybe I'll take this as an opportunity to practice my "flirting" skills. ahha.. I'm only here for a two weeks afterall, and then I'm off to several different places out of state and finally to Pepperdine. heh.. I don't have much to lose, and since my flirting tends to suck... .. ahha, and for the record, I saw one guy go upstairs (naturally he would be coming back down).. decent guy.. so he was my first *Practice being 'seen' in my glasses. heh..I'm supposed to wear glasses when I read or am on the computer, but it feels weird to me still to have others see me wearing glasses.. it should be no big deal, but, *shrug*.. now..I need any other suggestions for semi-interesting things I could do.. hehe, if you know of any good websites, books.. anything.. let me know? :) thanks. . . . babbled Lin |
